“We” Yevgeny Zamyatin

Truly an amazing novel. It is generally viewed as one of the founding works of dystopian fiction, particularly totalitarian states and it is a precursor to Orwell’s “1984”. Although originally written in Russian, it was first published in the United States in English due to Yevgeny Zamyatin being banned from publishing in the Soviet Union. This latest translation is particularly good with an engaging introduction. The novel is written as a series of journal entries by D-503, a heartfelt follower and supporter of OneState, in an easy-to-read style. I am currently working on a literary analysis of this novel.
